263. (04 Nov) Marnie (1964, Alfred Hitchcock) 71

Hitchcock makes his outlandish soap opera as technically proficient, entertaining and moving as is possible. However, Marnie seems quite haphazard when you consider the careful, near-perfect structure of The Birds. It's certainly self-aware, making playful use of the medium, but the sinister tone never quites rings completely true. Still, I'll never look at the color red the same way again.
