Totally undercooked and barely sexy, Release is at least conceptually interesting. The idea of an inmate and prison guard involved in a gay relationship is difficult to maintain and the non-linear structure Flaxstone and Martin employ make this feel disorienting and amateurish. Attempts at making this a gritty prison drama also almost uniformly fall flat.
