New Releases:
Source Code: For the longest time I've been trying to figure out what Jake Gyllenhaal should do when Hollywood wises up that he's just not a big box office draw. Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoy him as an actor. It's just that, on the whole, his movies don't really explode onto the scene. They generally limp into the US and slide in safe at home overseas after all the tabloids have gone on to brighter things. So I figured it out, he should become the anti-Old Spice commercial ninja! Whenever one of those annoying people pop on to ramble on about their own awesomeness due to something as arbitrary as their deodorant, he swings out of nowhere, karate chops them, then flies off into the night! My own version of Robin Hood *tear*
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night: You know it's the night because you can hear the crickets echoing throughout the theater. Sorry Routh this was a strictly fanboy only zone.
Ironclad: Well, that theatrical run didn't last long now did it? It's OK, Giamatti, we still believe in you!
Other Goodies:
High and Low (Criterion/Blu-Ray): For my money this is Kurosawa's most often overlooked masterpiece. It doesn't work for everyone quite as well as I would like but to those who enjoy it, it's a wonder to behold.
Leon Morin, Priest (Criterion/Blu-Ray): I know Melville far better by name than I do by content - having only seen Le Samurai, though I've heard great things about his Army of Shadows. Perhaps he's a director I should tackle in a future series here on LiE?
Donnie Darko (10th Anniversary Blu-Ray): While I still hold this movie in high regard, I have to be honest - all the constant releases and hubbub about it is getting old...
Well, there you have it ladies and gents so pack in the purse, stuff the wallet and head on out and support your local DVD store! If you don't have a DVD store, support your local sheriff instead (we must do as the movies request of us after all). Happy Hunting!
