Obligatory DVD Release Post 3/15/2011

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Welcome to the DVD Jungle. For your safety we ask that you please don't feed the Bruckheimers.

New Releases:

The Fighter: You know what would have made this movie better - Tickle Me Elmo. Universal truth - adding a Tickle Me Elmo to any film involving men fighting is automatically increased in awesomeness by fifteen fold. Why do you think Gladiator has been so successful? What? You didn't know there was a Tickle Me Elmo in Gladiator? Wow... next think you'll be telling me you didn't know Tickle Me Elmo was the central character in The Godfather.

Hereafter: You know, I'm not sure I can say much about this movie. It's opening sequence is going to hit way too close to home given recent events, so I would preface anything by saying: be forewarned. Second, I would like to say that Clint Eastwood... if you mess up J. Edgar, you and me are going to have to partake in a sit down talk about this. Hereafter barely survived the snore test, but you're running on fumes.

The Switch: Just about every review I've read for this one has used some combination of the words 'horrible,' 'disgraceful,' and 'Jennifer Aniston.' I'll let you decide which of the three is primary reason I'm in no rush to see this anytime soon.

Waste Land: I will see this. For the first time in a long time (ever) I fully intend to see every Best Documentary Oscar nominee and this is the one that has eluded me. *Whips out gloves* It's clobbering time (gah, if only that movie didn't blow then that reference would be so much more fun).

Other Releases: A Shine of Rainbows (seriously? worst title since good ol' HC?), The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest (you go person), Hemingway's Garden of Eden (when will Hollywood ever learn?)

Other Goodies:

Sharktopus (Blu-Ray): To hell with the rest, this is the must see DVD of the week!

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (Blu-Ray): Because people over thirty still think it's hip to quote this.

Au Revoir Les Enfants (Criterion): 1) It's Criterion. 2) It has the phrase Au Revoir in it. I'm sold.

Well ladies and gents that's about all I got for you this evening. Hope you enjoy yourselves! And, as always, happy hunting.
