I'm all for slow builds in horror movies, but Dead Birds takes forever to offer up a scare. By the time it finally does, it's well past the point of mattering much. Alex Turner's weak grasp on genre filmmaking is rivaled by his inability to make a convincing period piece. Seems whatever money they had for Dead Birds went to sets and costumes when dialect coaches were sorely needed to give this some actual authenticity.
