With his amateur art project, Ben Drew willfully diffuses the power of almost every track from his Mercury Prize-shortlisted soundtrack. "Drug Dealer," for instance, is evocative to listen to, but it's embarrassing to watch painfully literal images accompany every lyric. On the opposite end of the spectrum, more incidental use of some songs makes the music flaccid. The dopey crime drama that intersects music sequences is broad, unaffecting and hideously written. Despite its efforts to be gritty, scenes of heinous acts of violence or drug use feel entirely phony.
