Though Daniel Henshall certainly makes an impression as the charismatic, cruel John Bunting, Snowtown offers little on almost all other levels. Animal Kingdom comes to mind as a superior film about a young man trapped by his criminal family; in that film, James Frecheville's quiet performance spoke volumes more than Lucas Pittaway's tearful one does here. Only the film's bleakness makes any impact. Justin Kurzel's color palette sets the mood more than any of the drama in this dull, plodding muddle.
