Even the most die-hard Madonna fans would struggle to defend The Girlie Show. Only the messiness of her various concepts compiling makes this fascinating. From her awful haircut to the jumbled, poorly choreographed routines, it's hard to point a finger at any one number being worse than the others. A Marlene Dietrich inspired "Like a Virgin" certainly sticks out as a poor choice. But it's telling that the strongest moment involves her energetic dancers moving to "Justify My Love" while she's off doing a costume change. It's never a good sign if a Madonna concert is better off without Madonna.
