207. Chiefs

207. (17 Sep) Chiefs (1983, Jerry London) 60

Chiefs is a delightfully luird look at a rural town in Georgia. It's credible in its realistic depictions of racism and small town life, but it's Keith Carradine as a sexual predator and murderer of young boys that makes this noteworthy. He's a bland villain, but it's shocking and enticing material. Despite a strong ensemble, only Carradine got an Emmy nomination, but he offers the least nuanced performance here. Brad Davis is particularly fun as a wild-eyed, horndog police officer. Charlton Heston, Billy Dee Williams and Stephen Collins also make good use of their screentime.
