Kyaa Super Kool Hai Hum (2012)

The prequel to this movie, Kya Kool Hai Hum, can be unofficially accredited with turning Bollywood around from the conservative family dramas to the open sexual comedies. The movie shook the nation with its open abuses, sexual jokes and skimpy women and kick-started the trend in this genre. The second part of this movie, aims to be just as openly ridiculous as the first if not more. Adi (Kapoor) is a struggling actor whose only claim to fame is selling ridiculous products on a tele-shopping network. DJ Sid (Deshmukh) is a less-known DJ who is looking for a big party to play at to become famous. Sid goofs up with the music during a fashion show which distracts model Anu (Jane-Dias) and results in a wardrobe malfunction on live national TV. Simran (Sharma) is a call centre executive who meets Adi by chance in a bus. Adi falls in love with her and proposes to her within 9 days which freaks Simran out. Simran lies to him that she is lesbian with her flat mate Anu and hence cannot marry Adi. Anu and Simran head out to Goa for a break and Adi and Sid don't want to be left behind. Unlike the normal formula for making a movie, this one has first created a string of jokes and glued them together on a hopeless plot line. This formula might have just worked, had the jokes been consistent throughout the movie and not gotten melodramatic towards the end. Some unnecessary drama and songs ruin an otherwise decent momentum. The jokes, in isolation, are a laugh-riot and extremely bold. Spoofs on a whole lot of people and movies are made which is a treat to watch. Enjoy the jokes and forget the rest, that's what you need to do in this case.

Observe and Report (2009)

Starring: Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Ray Liotta, Michael Pena, Collette Wolfe

An over-ambitious shopping mall security guard, Ronnie (Rogen) aspires to join the police force and thinks that he is just the man for it. He thinks of himself being capable of doing far more things that in reality he can never do. When the mall is hounded by a flasher who openly shows his genitals to women, Ronnie thinks he has a case on hand that needs to be cracked. Brandi (Faris) is a cosmetics sales girl on whom Ronnie has a crush and who has been subjected to a full view of the flasher and his tools. Police Detective Harrison (Liotta) has been appointed to catch the flasher much to the ire of Ronnie, who thinks it is his case and his moral right to save Brandi from the clutches of the flasher. The movie might appear to be interesting and entertaining but sadly does not turn out that way. Seth Rogen is annoying rather than being funny, Anna Faris is the usual dumb blond that she is always known to play and the humour between them is simply non-existent. Its not exactly unwatchable but it is still highly avoidable.

18 Year Old Virgin (2009)

A just-turned-18 teenage girl, Katie Powers (Alaina May) wants to lose her virginity. Her best friend Rose (Walsh) decides to take her to a graduation party where she intends to sleep with Ryan (Harnish) a boy she has a crush on who once kissed her in the 6th grade. Ryan refuses to sleep with virgins due a bad experience in the past and hence she decides to first lose her virginity to someone else and then approach Ryan. The rest of the movie is a long and boring drab with Katie trying to get any man she can find to sleep with her, including even her good friend Spencer (Leigh). One expects a movie with this story to be remotely entertaining but it sadly isn't. Humour is almost non-existent which makes the movie a very long and tedious watch even though it doesn't have a very long run-time. The movie believes that loads of skimpy-clad, young and attractive women is enough reason for you to watch the movie but that sadly isn't the case. If its American Pie or Van Wilder that you are looking for, you would be disappointed. If its clothes-less woman you aspire, its spot on.

School for Scoundrels (2006)

A depressed and lonely meter reader, Roger (Heder) lacks any form of self-esteem and pride. He is the kind of person who would, if bullied, would pay for somebody else's fines and also give away anything else he had. A friend of his recommended him to visit Dr. P (Thornton) the very same man who helped him gain some self-confidence and motivation. Roger joins the program and is shocked by the absurd tasks that Dr. P and his assistant Lesher (Duncan) make them do. However, as time progresses, the results of the classes start paying off and Roger gains a lot more confidence than he had, so much so, he even asked Amanda (Barrett), the girl he loves, out with him for dinner. Yet, all that glitters is not gold and every medication that doctor prescribes to you will have side-effects. Roger learns horrible things about Dr. P and his past and learns about the side-effects that this therapy would have. The movie shares its name with a 1960 British movie with its storyline being greatly altered. The movie feels very incomplete in many aspects. The humour is negligible, romance hardly exists and the evolution of Rogers image from being a loser to being a winner is not shown with correct progression. A very average movie with average everything else.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (3D) (2011)

Harold (Cho) & Kumar (Penn) have entertained audiences in the past when they went to White Castle and Guantanamo Bay. The two best friends perpetually landed themselves in trouble with Harold trying to figure a more reasonable way out and Kumar choosing something more radical. The two friends have now parted ways with Harold tired of Kumar's continued immaturity and not being able to accept adulthood. He has settled down with Maria (Garces) and Maria's family decides to drop in for Christmas. Her father Carlos Perez (Trejo) has entrusted Harold with the task of decorating a Christmas tree that he has been growing for years for this special occasion. Kumar is still spending time like a college graduate, smoking weed all day long but things suddenly change when he finds a package with Harold's name on his doorstep. Not having seen him in all these years he decides to pay him a visit and give the package. Kumar, ever-famous for his blunders, puts Carlos' tree on fire and the two now need to look for a new tree and decorate it before he returns home. The movies have consistently focused on the duo and their misfortune events but what made them famous and everyone loved was the slapstick and enjoyable humour. Penn, as usual, brings in all the sex and stupid humour which seemed to lack finesse and character. The movie doesn't make you laugh like the previous movies, gets extremely boring during unwanted melodramatic scenes and lacks a different plot. Fails to live up to the brands name and a big let down for fans.

Hole in One (2010)

Starring: Steve Talley, David Ellison, Dean Cameron, Christopher Showerman, Sandy Modic

Sex sells? At least that is what the makers of this movie believe in. Here is our recipe; get a young famous actor, get some gorgeous skimpy clothed woman, add some considerable nudity, sprinkle some slap-stick humour and if you really wish, add a plot to it. Eric (Talley) is an amateur golfer who hustles people at golf and makes a living. His best friend Tyler (Ellison) runs a store that sells golf apparel and the two are enjoying their life the way it is. On one eventful day, Eric makes a bet with two plastic surgeons at golf and loses, or rather gained, something he wish he never had. Steve Talley has emerged as the new god of sex-comedy movies after his success with American Pie and Van Wilder and is poised to become the next Sean Williamson Scott of the industry. The movie is a mindless comic with no laughable humour or entertaining plot outline. If loads of topless woman is what defines your style of entertainment then this movie is definitely up to the mark else it is a pure waste of precious time. Watch at your own risk.

Dude, Where's My Car (2000)

Two pot-heads have a crazy night and the next day, they don't remember a thing. Jesse (Kutcher) and Chester (Scott) cannot remember where they went and what they did but all they know is that they might have had a really good time. The two forgot their anniversary with the twins, Wanda (Garner) and Wilma (Sokoloff), forgot where they kept their gifts, forgot why a transsexual is demanding $200,000 from them, forgot why two Nordic dudes, a group of girls calling themselves 'hot chicks' and a team of very geeky cult members are asking them for the 'Continuum Transfunctioner', a device that can destroy the entire universe, and also forgot where they parked Jesse's car. They realised that if they find the car most of their questions about last night would be solved, but that is if they can find out where the car is. Since this movie preceded The Hangover one can say that it might have been the source of inspiration for the modern epic laugh riot. This movie, however, was not all that funny but just plain stupid. Its the very typical slap-stick humour that you sit and enjoy with friends and simply erase it from your memory later. Stupid and funny but don't expect too much out of it.

Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach (2009)

Starring: Sean William Scott, Randy Quaid, Brando Eaton, Emilee Wallace, A.D. Miles

Most sex-comedies try to make a living out of the same limited objectives; show some stupidity along with unwanted nudity and this movie is no different. Gary Houseman (Scott) used to love the game of tennis but he felt that tennis never really loved him back and hence swore to give up the sport. After a failed tennis career, he became a high school janitor where he once again rubbed shoulders with his estranged sport which sparked his love once more. The tennis team was failing and wasn't getting anywhere and the tennis coach, Lew Tuttle (Quaid) appointed Gary to be the assistant coach after seeing his skills. With the subsequent death of Coach Tuttle, faculty member Steve Pimble (Miles) volunteered to head the tennis team although he knew nothing about the game. Gary and Steve now have the astronomical task on their heads to coach the tennis team and make them win the state champions, just as Coach Tuttle had set out to do. The sad part about the movie is that it had the enormous scope of being fun, but stupid jokes, scenes that don't contribute to the plot and tacky editing made sure that your fun time turns out to be not-so-fun. Sean William Scott and his acting was probably the only saving grace in the movie, had it been anyone else it would have been just worse. An average movie and don't expect fireworks.

Old School (2003)

Three friends are hating their age and want to get back to their wild and youthful days. Mitch (Wilson) broke up with his girlfriend when he came to know that she was having sex with random people. Frank (Ferrell) recently got married and cant handle the new responsibility and Beanie (Vaughn) just simply hates his life. Mitch moves into a new house on a college campus but the new Dean of Students, Dean Pritchard (Piven) holds a long grudge against the three of them and tries to get them evicted. In order to be legally allowed to stay on campus, Beanie decides to start a fraternity of misfits and makes Mitch the fraternity godfather. From 18 year-olds to 89 year-olds, everyone wants to be a part of this new wild fraternity, much to the dislike of Dean Pritchard. There are thousands of ways of doing a sex-comedy wrong and only a few methods to get it right. Thankfully, this movie has followed the correct path to produce a hilarious and entertaining movie, just like what the doctor ordered.

Wedding Crashers (2005)

Two good friends, John (Wilson) and Jeremy (Vaughn) are professional wedding crashers. Their sole objective is to meet new women and sleep with them. They learn of Treasury Secretary William Cleary (Walkin) whose daughter is getting married and plan to crash the biggest wedding of the country. They meet the other Cleary sisters, Claire (McAdams) and Gloria (Fisher). John falls for Claire but later learns that she is engaged to Zachary (Cooper) and Jeremy gets Gloria, the young sex-hungry teenager. John and Jeremy get invited to spend some time with the family over the weekend which simply brings John and Claire closer, perhaps a bit too close. The movie is outright predictable and is no different from the thousands of other movies that come out on similar lines. It lacks any kind of outright humour and the story seems to develop at its own leisurely pace. It did get a bit more interesting towards the end, but not too much. Everything about it is quite average, nothing great.

Thumbs up: The concept of having 'wedding crashers'

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

Starring: John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, Clark Duke

Three friends are fed up with their adult lives. The friends hardly seem to meet each other and they don't really call themselves 'friends' anymore. Lou (Coddry) gets into hospital for what seems to be a suicide attempt and Adam (Cusack) and Nick (Robinson) decide to pay him a visit. The three friends, along with Jacob (Duke) Adam's nephew, decide to go to Kodiak Valley and refresh their childhood memories from there. They are sitting in a hot tub outside their room when they accidentally spill Chernobly, an illegal Russian drink, which damages the tubs electronics and sends them back in time. The mysterious tub mechanic tells them that they have to do the same things what they did back in 1986 or else the 'butterfly effect' might create disastrous consequences in the future. Lou doesn't want to go get beaten up by six guys, again, Adam doesn't want to break up with his high school crush and get stabbed in the eye with a fork, again, and Nick doesn't want to have sex with Tara because he is married in the future. The adventure back in time has changed a lot of things in all their lives and Jacob finally finds out who his dad is. The movie really isn't the average sex-comedy that one would expect but it still makes a really good watch. Some parts do get a bit serious and dragged, but its tolerable. What was really missing is that one stupidly hilarious scene, which sadly wasn't there. A good watch with a group of friends which would make you want to live another unforgettable night.

Miss March (2009)

Starring: Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore, Raquel Alessi, Molly Stanton, Craig Robinson

Two childhood friends, Eugene (Cregger) and Tucker (Moore) took different paths in life, although they grew up together. Tucker became a Playboy-loving sex-addict and Eugene, the exact opposite. He and his girlfriend Cindi (Alessi) abstained from sex and educated young children about the hazardous consequences of making love. When Cindi cant seem to stay off sex anymore, she gives Eugene an ultimatum but an accident that night sends Eugene into a coma. Four years later when Tucker whacks him with a baseball bat on the head which finally does wake Eugene up, he sees that his entire family has left him, including Cindi, and Tucker is the only person who is still around. So much so, Cindi went ahead to become a Playboy Playmate and later featured as Miss March. Euguene, confused as to why his girlfriend is doing this, goes on a road trip with Tucker across the entire country to attend the Playboy party and finally confront his girlfriend. A lot of movies try to be American Pie but most of them fail horribly. The movie is not an outright bore, but its not very entertaining either. Lack of any kind of serious humour and good twists, just makes this another random sex-comedy that you would forget immediately after watching it. Watch, forget and go to bed.

Kick-Ass (2010)

Dave Lizewski (Johnson) is a low-life, good for nothing youth. Neither a math geek nor a sports hero, he gets absolutely no attention in college and is pushed around by everyone. He suddenly wonders why nobody has ever considered being a super-hero as a profession and decides to become the first one, naming himself Kick-Ass. His first crime-fighting stint lands him up in the hospital, naked, and he is pronounced gay by the entire college. The good side being that the college beauty Katie (Fonseca) starts taking pity on him since he is gay. Meanwhile, Damon Macready (Cage), an ex-cop is seeking revenge from Frank D'Amico (Strong) for killing his wife and framing him wrongly for dealing in narcotics. Once out of jail, he starts training his very young daughter in weapon wielding and crime-fighting. Together, they become Big-Daddy and Hit-Girl and plan to avenge D'Amico. In order to get even with this new found rage in  becoming a super-hero, D'Amico makes his son Chris (Mintz-Plasse) the Red Mist. The movie is a spoof of Spider-Man with most of the plot being borrowed from there. The movie may not be outright hilarious but its still a fun watch. Nicolas Cage's performance is quite wasted and the same role could have been done by a lesser known actor without hampering too much of the movies outcome. A mix of humour and crime fighting conjures a good combination which is worth a watch.

Road Trip: Beer Pong (2009)

Starring: Preston Jones, Michael Trotter, DJ Quallas, Nestor Aaron Asbera, Danny Pudi, Julianna Guill

A sequel to the 2001 hit movie Road Trip, this movie narrates the life of Andy (Jones) and Katy (Guill), a crazy in love couple who have to go to different universities to pursue their education. Andy's friend Korken (Trotter) is always behind him to forget about Katy and to forget about being loyal and to enjoy college life to the fullest. Andy and Jake (Asbera) are beer pong champions and are representing The University of Ithaca at the national beer pong championship. Katy decides to get a transfer to Andy's college, something which freaks Andy out. Andy also comes across his childhood crush on the Internet and decides to meet her at the beer pong championship. The four friends need funding for the road trip and approach Arash (Pudi) the son of the dictator of Tandor (which is a subtle spoof on India). He agrees, provided he can come along on the trip. Overnight, the government of Tandor falls and the five of them find themselves on the street without any money. The movie uses a lot of elements from the previous movie and tries to incorporate it in a new story. The entire outcome is an average plot, poor performances and the lack of any kind of humour making it plain boring. A messed-up version of the original

Police Academy (1984)

Starring: Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall, G.W. Bailey, Bubba Smith, Donovan Scott, George Gaynes

Fed-up with the high crime rate in the city, the mayor enforces a new law where anyone and everyone can apply to the police force and there would be no restrictions for entry. All those people who dreamt of being on the police force but previously couldn't apply, throng the police academy to get their 14 weeks of police training. Carey Mahone (Guttenberg) always seems to get himself into trouble and is sent to the police academy as a form of punishment and rectification. The Chief of Police realises that a bunch of misfits have signed up in the academy and orders Commandant Lassard (Gaynes) that the training should make these misfits want to leave the academy since they cant be thrown out. Lt. Harris (Bailey) in faced with the daunting task of training the most diverse group of eccentrics ever. From a sex-obsessed Spaniard and a blundering geek to a an over-enthusiastic army man and an over-weight sissy, he sees them all. The movie is a fun watch and gives you more than once occasion to laugh. It does not have the roll over your seat humour but yet makes the movie a pleasurable watch.

Road Trip (2000)

Starring: Breckinn Meyer, Sean William Scott, Amy Smart, Paulo Costanzo, DJ Qualls, Tom Green, Rachal Blanchard

Childhood friends and lovers, Josh (Meyer) and Tiffany (Blanchard) have a track record of being honest and faithful to each other. They both go to separate High School Universities and Josh feels Tiffany is cheating on her. He ends up in bed with Beth (Smart) and video tapes their activity. Josh later realises that Tiffany did not cheat on him and feels bad for what he did. He compiles a tape for her but his friend Rubin (Costanzo) accidentally mails the sex tape instead to Tiffany. Josh needs to get to Austin, Texas before the courier does and along with E.L (Scott), Kyle (Qualls) and Rubin as company, they set out on a road trip for a travel against time. The story has a nice fresh plot and some really hilarious bits. There is a good balance of sex and humour and the movie is a fun and entertaining watch. Best seen with a bottle of beer.

A Night at the Roxbury (1998)

Starring: Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Gigi Rice, Elisa Donovan, Molly Shannon

Two very stupid and annoying brothers, Steve (Ferrell) and Doug (Kattan) Butabi go club-hopping in big hopes to find some good girls to flirt with and get laid. Their over-enthusiastic attitudes coupled with a stupid dressing sense doesn't get them anything except slaps and kicks. They have a huge ambition to start a nightclub of their own which would allow people like them to gain free access without standing in lines. Their brotherhood breaks over a disagreement and both their lives go for a toss. A pretty lame attempt at trying to make the audience laugh at stupidity which lacks any aspect of humour. The entire getup of Ferrel and Kattan are enough to put one off from watching the movie and any sane person should entirely stay away from this one.

Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)

English Title: And Your Mother Too. In Mexico, two good friends, Julio (Bernal) and Tenoch (Luna) are complete casanovas who simply go about spending their fathers' money. Their girlfriends have gone for a trip to Italy and the boys intend to make the most of their freedom. At a wedding, they meet Luisa (Verdu) who is the Spanish wife of Tenoch's cousin. Tenoch and Julio start hitting on her and she tells them about her fantasy of going to the beach. They tell her about a non-existing plan of them going on a road trip to a non-existent beach known as Heavens Mouth, hoping that she would come along. Luisa initially refuses, but later a fight with her husband makes her change her mind. She believes that the boys were speaking the truth and embarks on the trip with them. The trio make a trip to a beach the don't know of and come across fun, betrayal, honesty and not to mention, lots of sex. The movie is not like any other sex-comedy which has corny jokes and very typical American teen humour. It seems quite original and simple and yet highly appealing. Nice performances by the trio and by keeping it sweet and simple anything can be interesting.

Role Models (2008)

Starring: Seann Willian Scott, Paul Rudd, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb'e J. Thompson, Elizabeth Banks, Jane Lynch

Wheeler (Scott) and Danny (Rudd) work for Minotaur, an energy drink manufacturing company. They hate their job, which includes visiting schools and convincing kids not to do drugs but drink Minotaur instead, something which is equally harmful. They end up driving the company truck up a statue and assault two police officers, due to which they land up with a jail term. Their only alternative is to do 150 hours of community service at Sturdy Wings, wherein they have to look after kids on weekends when they are lonely. Wheeler is pun in charge of Ronnie (Thompson) a 10-year old African-American with an extra abusive and sexual language. Danny, on the other hand has Augie (Mintz-Plasse) a kid who thinks he is living in a magical world. The movie is a bit boring and Paul Rudd's bored look doesn't do too much to lighten things up either. It lacks jokes and any form of humour that exists, fails to make you laugh.

Van Wilder: Freshman Year (2009)

Continuing the tradition of his forefathers, Van Wilder the fifth (Benett) comes to Coolidge College. Coolidge has changed drastically in the past few years and is now under military control. Dean Charles Reardon (Fuller) has imposed strict military regulations which includes a ban on partying and drinking. Van Wilder is about to change that. He starts hitting on the dean's right hand officer, Dirk's (Talley) girlfriend, Katilin (Cavallari) and proves it to her that his way of life is much better than Dirk's. The dean still holds a grudge against Van's father and along with Dirk, they want to throw Van out of Coolidge once and for all. Each side try and outdo the other, the dean by his army tactics and Van by throwing one amazing party. The movie title and Van's dog, Ballsack, are the only two things that have been kept in continuation with the previous two movies. Apart from that, all other traces are missing. The movie is a very regular sex-comedy and doesn't boast of being different.
