055. (07 Feb) In Our Nature (2012, Brian Savelson) 44
John Slattery and Zach Gilford almost elevate In Our Nature enough to make it notable. Unfortunately, all this upper-class angst is hard to stomach. The male characters are generally unlikable, even awful. Meanwhile, the female characters aren't allowed to have much depth and only get to stand by their man as each proves himself to be more of a jerk.
The conflicts here are hilarious, like Slattery considering giving up his lake house because the high taxes outweigh his son's childhood memories. The worst bit has Gilford accusing Gabrielle Union, who's charming here, of sleeping with Slattery for money, despite the fact she's a successful psychiatrist. Instead of confronting his stupidity, she walks away from the insult and it's never resolved. Sorry ladies, no arc for you!
