The novelty behind the aerial action here wears thin quickly and has frankly been outdone by films like Top Gun. It's a well-edited action movie, with Badham getting every bit as much excitement out of a car chase on the ground as he does with helicopters in the air. Unfortunately, it's almost entirely action, so it's hard to invest in a cast of characters whose development is never more than paper thin. No one is in bad form, per se, but I've never seen Roy Scheider or Malcolm McDowell make a slighter impression. The one-liners are truly terrible.
