Even borrowing footage from the Paradise Lost trilogy, West of Memphis willingly invites comparison to a series of films that had substantially more urgency and impact. West of Memphis still plays compellingly, basically flying by in two and a half hours, but it has little to reveal aside from Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh's funding of the West Memphis 3's legal efforts. This is engrossing and well-edited documentary filmmaking, but there's little to be said here that hasn't been covered.
