257. (31 Oct) Psycho II (1983, Richard Franklin) 48

Such an absurd amount of plot unfolds here, it becomes comical that the storytelling gets in the way of cheap scares. Practically every character turns out to believably be a red herring, but it's at the expense of atmosphere. Most sequels feel unnecessary, but Psycho II retains little, if anything about what makes the original a classic. Anthony Perkins and Meg Tilly both seem to be competing for who can be the weaker link in an already terrible ensemble. In terms of pace and technical proficiency, there's little to complain about. But this falls completely under the original's immensely cast shadow.
