Technically proficient and certainly intense in terms of atmosphere, the extended take nevertheless feels like a gimmick that restricts how scary this can be. It surely works better on a big screen, but for long stretches it's apparent how contrived and misshapen this is. A particularly bad transition occurs when the film briefly moves outdoors. Rather than turning horror cliches on their head, this relies heavily on them without executing them particularly well.
