048. (09 Feb) Footloose (2011, Craig Brewer) 51
Kenny Wormald's presence is the main detraction. He's a poor substitute for Kevin Bacon even if he's clearly a talented dancer. Julianne Hough is something of a revelation, finding nuance in a role that could've easily turned into a caricature. She's best opposite Dennis Quaid, who centers the film emotionally and turns out a superb performance.
The dance routines are probably the highlight. The rest is a retread of the original Footloose that relies heavily on that film's iconic imagery and soundtrack. Sometimes that works, but often it doesn't. For instance, Womald's angry dance solo doesn't play anything like Bacon's did in 1984. The best addition here is very likely Zac Brown Band's "Where the River Goes" and Big & Rich's "Fake I.D." Both are fitting additions to the original soundtrack.
