248. (14 Oct) Seven Psychopaths (2012, Martin McDonagh) 75
A more cinematic and ambitious film than his fiendishly delightful In Bruges, Martin McDonagh is quickly becoming the most accomplished comedy filmmaker working today. His self-aware and self-referential scripting skewers Hollywood filmmaking so capably, all the while looking so effortless, it's truly astounding. The graveyard sequence here is the standout; it has more laughs per second than most films have in their entire runtime. Sam Rockwell gives a career best performance while Christopher Walken, Colin Farell and Woody Harrelson are almost as excellent.
