A concise and intelligent overview of modern art up to the early 1970s, The Challenge is the sort of film tailored for Art History 101 courses. It's especially fun seeing Peggy Guggenheim talk about how she handpicked works that exemplify each modern art movement, but scoffs when asked why she hasn't selected any pop art because she determines it's not "real art." The only determinable misstep here is a very brief snippet including Yoko Ono's fake MOMA exhibit. She's an odd inclusion among Pollock and Duchamp.
